Shikhar Malhotra is an entrepreneur and institution builder whose work spans business, healthcare, education, and philanthropy. Over more than two decades, he has played a pivotal role in building and scaling institutions designed to contribute to India’s long-term economic and social progress.

At HCL Capital, Shikhar leads an investment mandate of $2.5 billion, identifying and developing new businesses, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities for the HCL Group. His focus is on building enduring platforms in sectors of strategic importance to the Group and to India, including technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, finance, and education.

Shikhar founded HCL Healthcare and built it into one of India’s leading providers of corporate health solutions. The company integrates preventive and primary care with technology-enabled health management, delivering comprehensive healthcare services at scale to employees across organizations.

Shikhar is also Chairman of India Chip, the semiconductor joint venture between the HCL Group and Foxconn. The venture reflects a long-term ambition to strengthen India’s sovereign semiconductor capabilities while extending HCL’s engineering legacy into the country’s rapidly evolving technology and advanced manufacturing ecosystem. With a commitment of approximately $450 million, India Chip is developing the country’s first advanced Display Driver Integrated Circuit (DDIC) Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

As Chairman of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which has committed approximately $2 billion to its philanthropic mission to date, Shikhar helps shape its vision of nation-building through transformational education and institution creation. In 2012, he founded Shiv Nadar School, growing it from a single campus in Delhi-NCR into a four-campus network across Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Chennai.

His commitment to education extends to higher education through his stewardship of Shiv Nadar University. As Chancellor, he continues to guide the University in strengthening its position as a multidisciplinary, research-led institution. Shiv Nadar University is India’s youngest university to have been conferred Institution of Eminence status by the Government of India and is one of only four private universities in the country to hold the distinction.

Shikhar is a graduate ofBabson College in the United States and has a degree in entrepreneurship. He serves on the Babson College Board of Trustees, having previously served on its Global Advisory Board.

Across his work, Shikhar’s focus has remained consistent: building institutions with the ambition, resilience, and long-term perspective to create meaningful impact at scale. Outside of work, he is passionate about sports, particularly football and cycling.
